Wildlife Viewing - Bighorn Sheep
Spot Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in their natural habitat along the canyon walls of the Arkansas River.
The Canon City area is one of the best places in Colorado to see Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep. These impressive animals are frequently spotted along the cliffs in Bighorn Sheep Canyon and around the Royal Gorge. Early morning and late afternoon offer the best viewing opportunities. Bring binoculars and a camera with a zoom lens. Remember to observe from a safe distance and never approach wildlife.
