One of Colorado's most iconic natural wonders, featuring dramatic red rock formations against Pikes Peak, just 40 miles from Canon City.
Garden of the Gods is a registered National Natural Landmark and one of Colorado's most visited natural attractions, located in Colorado Springs just 40 miles from Canon City. The park features stunning red sandstone formations that tower up to 300 feet, set against the backdrop of 14,115-foot Pikes Peak. The park is free to visit and open year-round from 5am to 10pm (November-April) or 5am to 11pm (May-October). The visitor center features a museum, gift shop, and cafe with panoramic windows overlooking the formations. Rangers offer free guided nature walks and programs throughout the year. Popular activities include hiking on 15 miles of trails ranging from easy paved paths to challenging rock scrambles. The Perkins Central Garden Trail (1.5 miles) offers the classic photo opportunities with the iconic Gateway formation. The challenging Siamese Twins Trail leads to unique rock formations framing Pikes Peak. Rock climbing is permitted in designated areas with a free permit. Horseback riding and Segway tours are available through concessioners. The Junior Ranger program makes this an excellent family destination.
